Our room faces the northwest side, so we really needed something to regulate the temperature. This was the best solution of the choices we had at Home Depot.

Overview

Woohoo! Another reason to have a remote! This unit came with a remote! Not like we already don’t have a collection of these. The max output is 1500W, 120VAC. That means it can heat up a room really good. The lower the wattage, the weaker it is. The design is a very attractive black with an large LED display of the temperature, two heating modes (high or low), timer (if it’s set) and current temperature.

Use

Ok, you really have to set this heater a couple of times before you know the real power of this. If you set it too high or too long, you risk overheating your room, and then you’ll get nosebleeds. We actually preheat our room before we go to sleep at night. The times we forget, I just set it on high for a few minutes with the door closed and then set it on the timer as well as a limiting temperature.

It also looks like Honeywell has put a lot of thought into the logic of the interface. Let me explain:

1. Power button first. Press once to set it on high. Press it again to set it on low. If you stop here, it will go as high as the mode allows. Low setting takes it to 81F, high goes to more than 92F.

2. You can set the temperature where it will automatically turn off once the temperature is reached. You can also set it to use Celsius or Fahrenheit. Set the temperature by pressing the second button once, then a thermometer icon appears. Then using the arrow keys to adjust the temperature.

3. To use the timer, press the second button again to display the timer icon and use the arrow keys to to set the timer - up to 10 hours - before auto turn-off.

4. You can also press the oscillator button at any time to distribute the heat uniformly. A great way to heat up your bed!

As for the remote, I personally haven’t used it yet. I just like that I have the option to use it. I might use the batteries for something else.

Another great feature is that there’s a heat-sensitive sticker that tells you how hot the grill and heating element really is. If it turns red, it’s hot. A slight burgundy color indicates a warm touch.

One flaw

The heat sensor is too sensitive and is oddly placed. It’s right above the heater grill so when we set it to a specific temperature, it doesn’t do a good enough job up-keeping the overall room temperature. I compensate for this by setting a higher than normal temperature to keep the room warm.

Conclusion

This heater probably has more than enough features. The great thing is, you can still use it for its basic functions without the remote, without the time or temperature settings. Sometimes the high/low setting is all you need, but at least, you get the choice.
