Heater Help

I’ve been looking for ways to save on my gas heat while staying warm and cozy in my apartment. I guess I’m looking for the best of both worlds. I first bought a DeLongh Oil filled heater which I was not happy with. Next, I bought an airtech ceramic heater with a fan. this heater worked very well in my bedroom but not so well in my living which is fairly large. Still it saved me a lot of money since I was able to use it in my living room and bedroom. Unfortunaely, it just only heats the “couch area” in the living room.

The Lasko 5800 (or 758000) is an attractive heater that does look good but that is where the positive comments will end, it is an accident looking for a place to happen.

This heater is outright dangerous in that it takes less than three pounds of force (push with your pinky) and over it goes, yet that is where the fun just begins, even after tipping over the heater continued to run regardless of the heat setting.

Heating with this heater is as with many, thermostatically controlled ONLY when used in AUTO High Heat mode, there is no AUTO LOW mode and heating in the LOW heat manual mode requires you turn it off manually.

We had the Pelonis HC-451 Ceramic Utility Heater. I purchased it at our local depot a couple fo years ago. It was full of hot energy, small and efficient. Too bad it said goodbye and broke. It was excellent while it lasted.

This is a very small heater in size at 9″x8″. The heater is rated at 5,200 BTU’s. That’s impressive for such a small unit. It draws 1,500 Watt’s. That will cost some fuel dollars. but it’s not terrible. The heater weighs about 5 lbs and can be held by a formed handle inside the top back area.

Back when I was married, you know, the black years… My wife at the time, was all about doing everything that I was doing. The problem was that she couldn’t just do it, she would have to do it while complaining about doing it. So, when I told her that I was going camping with the guys, of course, she wanted to go. She always wanted to go, regardless of how much she hated it. So, I obliged and the other guys decided that they would invite their wives as well. But being that my ex wife had just had a baby at that time, my son Jordan, we decided that if we were going to bring him along, we needed to prepare for it.

So far I like this heater. It’s easy to use, and makes me comfortable in cold weather. I’ve had it a little over a week now.

This unit does not have wheels. It must be picked up and carried, for which it has something like handles. It’s not too heavy, but an oil filled heater has to have oil in it in order to work properly and that necessarily adds some weight.

I’m not sure if the rounded shape confers any benefit. I suspect it does not. It does look good though, not all boxy like a normal oil filled heater.

Our room faces the northwest side, so we really needed something to regulate the temperature. This was the best solution of the choices we had at Home Depot.

Woohoo! Another reason to have a remote! This unit came with a remote! Not like we already don’t have a collection of these. The max output is 1500W, 120VAC. That means it can heat up a room really good. The lower the wattage, the weaker it is. The design is a very attractive black with an large LED display of the temperature, two heating modes (high or low), timer (if it’s set) and current temperature.

we purchased a bionaire 3900 console heater, and exactly one year and two weeks after purchase it buzzed loudly, emitted smoke and put out a seriously ‘burned’ smell. i opened the faceplate and found that several wires to the heat level control knob were either melted or fused; the knob housing itself was melted and charred! a neighbor happened to have a similar unit, and complained that it often wouldn’t turn on unless he toyed with the knobs; i opened it and found the SAME burned and melted wires! bionaire’s way of building the heater was to use a little locking tab of copper to hold the power wires to the control box, and it was clearly insufficient a connection for the amount of current flowing through the wire. this led to overheating, melting and fire. a mr. pantaleon silva, customer service ‘manager’ at bionaire, COMPLETELY blew us off about this, despite many close-up pictures sent to him. finally, bionaire offerred us ANOTHER one, with the SAME defect! sorry, my life is worth more than that. these losers need a class-action suit. PS - a friend purchased one of their ‘galileo’ cube heaters - it has fans that often fail to run when turned on, leading to overheating. BAD PRODUCTS!!!

My brother gave me this Vornado heater as a much needed Christmas gift about a year ago. My brother researches everything he buys, usually using Consumer Reports and usually only buys when the object is rated very high and is a good value for the money spent. He told me that the main advantage to this heater was that if it tips over, it automatically shuts off. This is true. If you move this heater, it shuts off right away. This is a great safety factor.

Winter is my least favorite season and I am constantly looking for ways to stay warm during these dreary months. The heat from the furnace isn’t always good enough and I find I often have to reach for a space heater to compensate for the difference. One heater brand I have grown to like is Holmes and one of its many different products is the Holmes HFH110U, a small portable space heater.

Facts About This Product:

I bought mine in walmarts for about $35 several years ago.

It worked fine. Then after about 2 years one of the switches on the front (which controls 900 watts) stopped working.

I find all oil filled heaters (I have 4) close to the same in heat output (they’re the same size/construction, they use the same amount of power). The differences are the controls/thermostat, how to move them around, how hard they are to assemble, and do they have a place to stash the cord.
