My house was built in 1938, so it is poorly insulated, and the master bedroom, being the farthest room from the forced-air furnace, receives little heat. So, looking for supplemental heat, I tried the Slant/Fin Futura FE-1500.

Even with an outside temperature of 10 degrees, this heater kept a 12′ x 16′ bedroom warm. It doesn’t have glowing red coils and a noisy fan, but a rather simple, trouble-free construction. This is a convection heater and works through basic physics: as warm air rises it creates circular air movement that pulls cool air into the bottom of the heater, through the radiator, and up into the room. A simple concept that works surprisingly well.

But, I’m a light sleeper and this heater does make some noise. As the thermostat cycles on and off, and the heater warms and cools, the metal construction expands and contracts, making various noises such as a subtle “clink, clink, clink” or an occasional loud “bang.” These noises were too annoying for me, so I returned it. If you don’t think these noises would bother you while you sleep, or if you’re looking to heat a small room where additional noise is not an issue, then this heater my be fine for you.

This heater is rated at 1500 watts, so you probably won’t be able to use another high wattage appliance on the same electrical circuit, such as a blow dryer or vacuum cleaner. Despite the high wattage rating, the heater seems to operate efficiently. My electric bill did increase, but not dramatically so.
