I purchased the Honeywell HZ519 Baseboard Heater to replace a DeLonghi heater which had good design, but did not heat very well. So it appears that the trade off was complementary, but at least I now get better heating capability, which is the primary reason for a heater.

The Honeywell does a good job of heating an average size room. I use mine in a 3-season room in the colder months of the spring and fall and occasionally even in the winter. The room is approx. 250 s.f and this heater does an adequate job of heating in the cooler months, but has to be supplemented with another heater in the very frigid months of winter.

The heater is very long. approx. 41 inches so it does require a fairly large unobstructed space to set up. There is a power button to turn it on & off. There is also a temp/timer button, up & down buttons and a F/C button to set the display for Fahrenheit or Celsius readout. The display will show the current room temperature but I found this to be off by about 5 degrees. You can set the temperature in 1 degree increments and the unit will power on and off to keep the room temperature constant to the setting. However, since the thermometer in the unit is obviously not calibrated correctly, you have to adjust this setting to compensate for the discrepancy. There is also a continuous on capability and that is basically what I use most of the time.

You can also set the unit to run for a predetermined amount of time and it will then shut off completely. The display is very difficult to read, particularly at an angle. There is a power light that glows when the unit is on and also a SafeGuard Alert Heat Indicator Badge located on the top of the grill which glows red when the heater is on and returns to a black color when it is off. This is a nice feature because it is sometimes difficult to tell when a heater like this is on and hot, unless you touch it.

Because of the heater’s long length it is difficult to pick up and carry. It would have been nice if the manufacturer had designed it with carry handles of some sort. Except for its unusually long length, the heater does present a fairly low profile and is rather streamlined looking. The electrical cord has an adequate length and the unit is quite light in weight.

This unit does have some design and functionality flaws, but it does produce a lot of heat. It consumes 1500 watts and there are no low or variable settings to conserve on electricity. The unit operates on a regular 110 outlet and you use it at the full 1500 watts or nothing.

There is no fan built into the unit to help circulate the warm air as some space heaters do have. I paid $52. at Amazon.com with free shipping. I could have paid $46. + tax at Home Depot, which would have come out to about the same, but they were out of stock and probably would not get them in until the winter months.

I am satisfied with this heater so far because in spite of several flaws in its design, it does seem to crank out an adequate amount of heat, and that’s what I needed a heater for. The price was reasonable and if it lasts for 3-5 years I will be very happy with my purchase.
