I have been preparing for the cold winter weather and decided to purchase a small space heater. I purchased the Holmes Portable Electric Heater model HFH 105 because the price was screaming out my name. For less than twenty dollars, I didn’t see how I could go wrong, especially with a heater manufactured by Holmes.

What’s to Love

The Holmes Portable Electric Heater has a couple of features that met my specifications. I was looking for a heater that was small enough and lightweight enough to easily carry from room to room. This model is definitely lightweight and very easy to carry with a easy to grasp handle. I have no problems maneuvering it about, in which ever room I feel a chill.

I wanted a heater that did not use propane, preferring an electrical space heater. My Holmes Portable Electric Heater can easily get plugged into any 120V electrical outlet. The cord is not as long as I would have liked, however, by using a six foot long extension cord, I solved this issue with no dilemmas.

I was not overly concerned with style or appearance of the heater that I decided to buy. There were some very fancy, super cool looking heaters for about the same price that the Holmes was selling for, but I did not recognize the manufacturer’s brand name. I ultimately based my decision to purchase the Holmes Portable Electric Heater HFH 105 on the size and simplicity. It seemed to be exactly what I was looking for.

My Experience

I would say that this heater suits my purposes. It is definitely small and portable. It must weigh less than four pounds and has a neat compact design. My new heater is of the fan type and is electrical; no messy propane, no fumes. Once plugged in, the thermostat whirs to life instantly beginning to warm up the area.

The warm air is blown about somewhat quietly. I have heard much louder and noisier heaters that are just too annoying to stay in the same room with. This is not the case with this Holmes model.

I actually like the simple design and easy-to-blend into any room off white color and style. It’s nothing fancy but it works by offering two levels of heating. The lower setting is great for using while sleeping and the safety feature will turn the heating mechanism off before there is danger of fire. I have yet to have any issues with overheating or any burning odors.

I have not had the need to clean this space heater yet, but I can tell you that it will not be very easy. It is designed like the Holmes cool air fans that seem to attract dust between the narrow spaces. I find cleaning these types of products difficult.

By a quick turn of the dial, the higher setting blows warmer out and circulates quickly through out most of the rooms in my home, which are of average size. My son’s room tends to get the warmest when he uses our electric space heater because he has the smallest bedroom.

Final Thoughts and Recommendations

I am happy with the heat that the Holmes Portable Electric Heater emits. It is not as powerful as I would prefer, but it does warm me up when there is a chill through my rooms, especially when strong winds create drafts in my home.

For the price that I paid for this effective space heater, I am satisfied with its performance. This heater would make a perfect gift for anyone who has circulation problems and may need some extra warmth without having to turn up their thermostat.

It is ideal for use at night to heat an average sized bedroom and still maintain a low 65 degree thermostat setting in the rest of the home.

I recommend the Holmes Portable Electric Heater for this winter’s chilling cold.
