We have a very inefficiently heated home - a wood stove and a propane gas stove for the downstairs area is all the heating we have. The upstairs and an added-on studio bedroom do not have any heat at all and require space heaters when it’s cold. A recent cold snap here in the Pacific Northwest (20 below one morning!) had us running all the space heaters full tilt. One of these is the Holmes Radiant Quartz Heater Tower, which we’ve used in the winter for several years now.

~ Product Description

The Holmes Radiant Quartz Heater Tower HQH307 is a tall and slim floor heater, that boasts its patented MaxFlow fan system which radiates immediate heat out into the room without causing a draft. The case is angled slightly back and upward, so the heat is projected outward into the entire room.

Inside the case are two quartz heating elements that glow red, which alerts you that the front grill is hot and shouldn’t be touched.

The Holmes Heater Tower has three power settings: Off, Low (750 watts), or High (1500) watts. There also is a thermostat dial so you can set the heater to your personal comfort level. At the lower settings the heater will cycle on and off to maintain your temperature setting. Note though, that the thermostat isn’t marked at all. You just turn it further around clockwise for more heat.

Should the Holmes Heater Tower accidentally get knocked over, it will automatically shut off.

The case measures 23″ by 12″ by 9″, and is very lightweight and easy to move from room to room. There is molded-in hand grip at the top of the case for carrying.

Holmes covers this heater with a 6 year warranty for defects.

~ My Experience

The Holmes Radiant Quartz Heater Tower HQH307 has done a great job for us, especially in very cold weather when we needed extra heat for our unheated rooms. This baby will heat the room quickly, as the heat is pushed out into the room by the fan. Although it doesn’t feel like a fan when you’re standing in front of it - no rush of air really. You will hear the fan when the heater is on though. It sounds very similar to a cooling fan. It’s not loud, but it’s not super quiet either. You will be aware of the fan noise, just as with any fan. It doesn’t rattle or squeak, and still runs smoothly after several seasons of use.

The thermostat and heat setting dials are simple to use. If you want to turn down the heat, just turn the thermostat dial down. The heater will cycle on and off to keep the temperature at your desired setting.

One thing I really do like about the Holmes Heater Tower is that it is angled back and upward, so the floor right in front of the heater doesn’t get hot. Plus the heat is directed outward into the room better with this design. We’ve used this in smaller rooms only, 12 x 16 I think, or smaller. We even used it for a while in the kitchen to keep our under-sink pipes from freezing during our sub zero temperatures.

The heavy-duty plastic case is easy to clean with a damp cloth, and the plastic part of the case does not get hot.

We found the Holmes Radiant Quartz Heater Tower HQH307 at our local Wal Mart a few years ago for about $55 I think.

Important note: The Holmes Radiant Quartz Heater Tower HQH307 has a metal grill in front of the quartz heating elements. This grill gets HOT! It will burn if you touch it. I wouldn’t recommend this heater for a home with small children who might be playing on the floor or crawling.

~ Final Thoughts

The Holmes Radiant Quartz Heater Tower HQH307 has done a fine job for us for many seasons now. It quickly warms a room, with a penetrating type heat that is very comforting.

I do NOT recommend this heater for a home with small children however. The front grill of this heater becomes extremely hot and will definitely burn if touched, and since it’s a floor heater, it could be within easy reach.
