I bought a Honeywell HZ-514 baseboard heater on 10/11/02. I used it to heat a room (my bedroom) that was a new addition to our home in which we have not put in central heat yet. On Thanksgiving morning at 5:30 a.m. 11/28/02 it started shooting sparks at 5:30 a.m. Thank God I was awake. This product was recalled on 2/7/02 - see www.safetyalerts.com/recall/p/02/p00026.htm. When I bought it from Home Depot on 10/11/02, Home Depot had just gotten in a bunch that week - eight months after the recall it is still being sold. This product has been recalled because it is a fire hazard. It is currently being sold at Home Depot and most likely other places as well. I think there was some litigation about this product and it changed it’s name from Duracraft 520 to HZ-514. Don’t buy this product unless you want to start a fire.
