Why I bought It

I purchased this unit three years ago for my office. I have one of those offices that is tied into the rest of the office heating/cooling system so I have no control of the actual temperature of my office without affecting the rest of the offices in my area. Our centrally located thermostat has the clear protective plastic locking cover, so only the keeper of the magical key can control your comfort. The good news is that in the spring and fall, my office is perfect, which only leaves me miserable in winter and summer, and left to my own thermal regulatory devices.

The Design and Functionality

As with every other purchase, the you have to be happy with the style, the functionality, and the price. I liked the pod like styling, with a fan that looks like a round speaker built into the middle. Its pretty much the same size as anything else in the market, with the exception of the tiny ceramic “cube” style heaters, which are generally sans fan. It has buttons that are intuitive, and a readable LCD screen that is easy to navigate. It also comes with a small remote control, which I used once and tossed in my drawer. It is really just an oscillating fan with an electric heater, so obviously the controls don’t need to have the complexity of an 80’s VCR. After a few weeks of almost being able to see my breath in my office, I plunked down $36 bucks for it at Target.

The Results - Instant Popularity

You plug it in and set your own temperature. Your other choice is oscillation or no oscillation. I set it at a comfortable 70 and it went to work. My office is 12′x12′ or so and it heated it up nicely. It then holds the temperature and turns on and off as needed. I did notice that my office was immediately more popular, as other cold dwellers decided to spend more time in my office, rather than their own. I openly wondered: Will I be invited to more parties? Will I be more productive, as my office is now a hub of activity? I don’t know, but I’m definitely warmer.

Long Term

After three years, it’s still plugging along. Being a dust phreak, do blow it out every so often with a can of compressed air, and then dust the outside. It just keeps heating, oscillating and blowing. I have noticed that if it gets bumped over, it doesn’t shut off. In fact it keeps wiggling on the floor until it overheats and trips a thermal sensor. I’m sure this has safety implications, but it doesn’t fall over on its own.
