This little thing can really throw the heat. It has settings for 1 or 2 elements, it oscillates, turns itself on or off, and maintains a set temperature. There is a timer as well. It even displays the temperature in either celsius or centigrade. Only thing missing is an Internet connection!

The LCD screen is nice and bright, and easily read from a distance. I did consult the booklet to interpret some settings. Hate to admit that though! Also, being a space heater and all there is a certain amount of potential for creating a fire. Pay attention to the warnings about safety.

To begin, I trust Honeywell. Hey, I’m from Minnesota originally, and guess where Honeywell is headquartered? My uncle even retired from employment there. I now live in South Carolina, near Myrtle Beach, which is not too far from North Carolina. It gets cold here too, being close to North Carolina, but not in comparison to Minnesnowta of course.

I use this heater in my garage workshop, which is a separate room in my garage, with double doors. I needed a small capacity heater since I am only heating about one garage stall in size. It has also been used for heating a double garage space, and does that quite well. Small in size was something I desired too. I have found that this unit suits my needs perfectly. I keep it about 10 feet from my workbench, and use the high setting initially when I turn it on. Once my set temperature is reached I turn it to the low setting, and let the automatic thermostat keep it at the temp I want. Electricity is never free.

Large power tools generally draw as much amperage as this unit does. Toasters and the like use this much amperage as well. If you are tripping breakers or blowing fuses already on a circuit, this unit may overload the line also. On the lower setting it may work fine. Using that setting simply means you would get about 60% of full capacity. That is still a nice amount of heat.

Because it uses ceramic elements it operates at a fairly low temperature, saving energy, and making it safer. Don’t kid yourself into thinking that you can save a lot of money by using this all the time. 1500 watts and 12.5 amps is going to make your meter spin.

A fan runs continuously when the unit is heating, whether it is stationary or oscillating. Consequently, there will always be some noise, but it is at a low level. The exception being when it goes to standby after your temp setting is reached. Kind of like your home furnace. Nothing is running then.

Here are the features:

- Continuous run, meaning that the unit will stay on until you turn it off. There are two heat setting of 1500 watts (12.5) amps, and 900 watts (7.5) amps. The high setting is drawing a lot of amps, and may overload older or already heavily used circuits.

- Temperature set, which uses up and down buttons to set the degrees you want. Using this feature means that the unit will shut off when your temp is reached.

- Set Timer is a function allowing you to automatically have the unit turn off after a certain amount of time, between 1 and 10 hours. Read the caution on using this function, which recommends that you set a temp before setting a timer. I personally would never leave this unit running unattended for more than a minute or two.

- Choose Fahrenheit or Celsius, whichever setting you prefer.

- Oscillation on or off, which works in all power and temperature/timer settings. The heater rotates slowly in about a 60 degree arc.

There are two safety devices built in. One is an indicator badge on the metal grill, which changes colors from black to red. When it is red the grill is hot.

The second feature is a tip sensor, which turns the unit off if it tips a certain number of degrees. The unit is squat and heavy on the bottom, making it quite stable. That is not something that can be said about a number of other products I looked at.

The LED display is quite easily seen, but is not backlit. A bright indicator light shows the unit is on and another one next to it shows it in standby when using the timer or temperature settings.

A remote control comes with it, which stores handily on the side of the heater itself. Two batteries needed to run it are included. It is a handy item, especially because the heater sits so low to the floor. The remote works to operate all of the features described above. The cord is 2-prong, about 7 feet long.

It is available in two colors, black and white. I found mine at a big box hardware store.

I have been very pleased with this product. It heats quickly, runs quietly on oscillation, and has a nice, quality feel to it. I compared a number of units before buying this one, and feel this item is a value priced product.

Note that the picture showing the unit is accurate in regard to the front, but does not show the remote hanging from the side. The remote hangs on a tab on the right side, close to the front.
