I was pretty surprised that no one has reviewed this oil-filled heater. With gas prices still high, I figured these were in high demand. After picking this one up from Target for 39 bucks, I was anxious to see it perform. I already have a Delonghi Dragon w/ the timer (TRDO715T), and it is AWESOME!!! It is more expensive, so I was hoping to get the same results from this cheaper Honeywell heater.
Well, it seems you get what you pay for. This one is already back at the store. It looks like a toy compared with the well-constructed Delonghi model. Even after hours and hours of being on, it could not sufficiently heat my living room or bedroom. And it isn’t even winter yet. Both spaces have only 9 ft. ceilings. My living room is about 15 x 16 ft. The bedroom is a tad smaller.
Placing the Honeywell about 6 feet from the Thermostat produced a 2 degree temperature raise from 63 to 65. This was on the highest setting. The room still felt cold after 3 hours. The same test performed with the Delonghi produced a 5 degree temperature raise in half the time. After 3 hours, my living felt very evenly heated at a medium setting.
It is hard for me to figure out why two oil-filled heaters of the same size produce such different results. The only thing I can come up with is the amount of oil in both units. The Honeywell seemed to have a much smaller amount inside. I am purely speculating based on lifting and transporting it, but I have heard that argument before. My advice is to take the heater out of the box and make sure it feels heavy with oil. I know that sounds confusing. But if you felt the Honeywell, you would understand what I’m saying. It almost feels like the last little bit of soda in a 2-liter bottle. That’s not good.
The timer feature is also very useful. It is probably worth an extra 10 or 15 dollars. I am off to search the internet for my second Delonghi heater. Hopefully this helps someone from wasting alot of time and energy.
