I should start by saying I have purchased three of these units to date (10-8-02). I purchased the first one a couple weeks ago through an on-line dealer (LivinginComfort.com) and after opening the package and turning the unit on high we found the overheat warning buzzer went off as it got hot. The manual states to check to see if a foreign object or objects are in the elements but there was nothing. I’m mechanically inclined so I decided to have a look at the interior components (against manufactures recommendation). Once in we found the thermostat wire looked like it was too close to the elements in a few spots and gently bent them away. This proved to do the trick as the unit is up and working very well.

I then ordered two more and upon delivery the same problem with both units….ugh! I got one working and the other I had to send back. So what’s the problem here? Three for three had the same problem. I can’t believe Slant/Fin does not know about this problem. It may be the way the shipping company is handling the product because all three came in very scuffed and bounced boxes. Big “Brown” is not normally that rough on stuff so perhaps Slant/Fin needs to do a better job of packaging this product.

Overall, I am very pleased with the units. They are a little too noisy for me in the bedroom as the clunk and clank as they heat up and cool down during the night. I place one in the hallway now and it keeps that end of the house toasty warm. By the way, prices vary dramatically so shop around for the best price. Good luck with yours!
