If your looking for a low energy bill, oil filled is the way to go. If your looking for quick hot heat at about twice the cost for energy, get a ceramic heater. This unit is slow to heat. So slow, that after an hour it only made my 55% room go up 2%. So what I did was fired up my kerosene heater, got the room up to 74 then shut it off. I then slowly lowered the thermostat on the device till I heard it click off. The room temperature has stayed steady and warm ever since. This unit is 1500w which is about 5000btus and should work well in an area no larger than 250sq. ft. My area was about 450 sq ft., so I bought two units. The slow heat actually works really well since I have it in my basement. The heat stays warm closer to the ground, and doesn’t travel much up the stairs.. which is perfect. I have central heating for the rest of the house. I haven’t received an energy bill yet, but oil filled units are the cheapest to run ‘electric’ heater you can buy, since the oil maintains it heat and emits heat long after the unit turns off. This fact makes for a consistent heat, that the rest of my house is now envious of. This is way cheaper than ceramic heaters of equal heat output. Extremely happy, my basement is cozy, unlike like my friends that have standard electric baseboard heaters in their basements.
